Lead me down, my Master–
Down the way You came;
Leaving all behind You–
Let me do the same.
Down into the valley
Where no human praise
Comes to make me lofty,
Comes to rule my days.
Lead me down, my Master–
Into servitude
To the sinful lowly–
Reputation skewed.
Down into Your suffering
Justice was denied.
Pain, humiliation,
Leave no room for pride.
Lead me down, my Master–
Down unto the cross
Where my self must perish–
And with it, all the dross.
Down in meek acceptance;
My goal a simple one:
That glory would be added
To God and to His Son.
Lead me down, my Master–
Deeper into You;
Till the resurrection
Comes to make things new.
Then at last in glory
To You I will ascend,
Reign with You in Heaven,
And praise You without end!
